Etched in Joy

Diya is the Hindi/Urdu word meaning “light”, and every year Duke Diya seeks to shed light on the culture, traditions and values of the South Asian community. Diya’s membership includes (but is not limited to) students from 8 major nations of South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan & Sri Lanka.

The group requested a flat photo-backdrop that highlights their culture, and also aligned with their theme.

To do this, we landed on a hand-carved foam backdrop that mimiced their invitation and wedding temples that can be seen in South Asian cultures.
